As we approach another holiday, and make plans to sit down with our friends and families in Thanksgiving, I have a couple of announcements/personal feelings I’d like to share:
(1) Let us give thanks first to the unceded lands of the indigenous people that we are fortunate enough to host feasts upon and call home. I am coming to you live from the unceded territory of the Kumeyaay nation, now known as San Diego and Baja California. Kumeyaay translates to “those who face the water from a cliff.” I encourage you to become familiar with the nation whose lands you call home, acknowledge those people in your gratitude this season (and every season!) and consider actions that can be taken towards retribution and recognition.
(2) Giving Tuesday is approaching. At 1% for the Planet, giving back is just another Tuesday. This Tuesday, next Tuesday, every day. We give back. I encourage you to take action this year. Don’t leave it to businesses. We can create change as individuals, too. This year, I will be giving back to the League to Save Lake Tahoe – a solutions oriented team of Tahoe advocates who use boots on the ground action to solve the environmental challenges that threaten the lake I love and consider home. I’ve been representing this blue bumper sticker on my Subaru for almost a decade now, and am stoked to have them as a part of our network. Family!
Feeling immense gratitude. Feeling stronger together.
